Understanding the Child Care Needs of Forsyth Families

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, in partnership with MDC, is sponsoring a research project to learn more about the child care needs and preferences of families in Forsyth County.

We're inviting agencies and community members to collaborate on outreach and recruitment. We request your input to ensure a diverse and inclusive sample that represents all of Forsyth County's families.

Please join us to discuss the project!

Building on what we're learning

This research builds on what we learned through Forsyth Family Voices and the Early Childhood Service System Analysis in 2016, to deepen our knowledge about the needs of families and provide strategic investments to help children succeed through Great Expectations. We are partnering with Compass Evaluation and Research, Inc., with Sarah Heinemeier, Ph.D., leading the project. She brings an extensive background in early childhood research and evaluation, with a great deal of work focused in Forsyth County.

This child care research study will consist of surveys that families will complete as well as focus groups with informal care providers.

Understanding what's happening in early care

Approximately 75% of Forsyth County children are not currently in licensed early care and education settings and too little is known about the quality of care that these children receive.  We seek to understand:

  • What are parents’ child care preferences, arrangements and challenges?
  • What are the gaps that exist within both formal and informal child care systems?
  • What are the needs of the families, friends and neighbors who care for children outside of the formal child care system?

We look forward to seeing you at one of the events soon!

Please RSVP with Marni Eisnermeisner@mdcinc.org, noting which event you will attend.
